 WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

     Notes From A Small Island

Craig was invited to attend a schools orchestral course at Inverclyde Sports Centre in Largs, playing violin.

The course brought together musicians from Spain, Norway, and Sweden with Scottish musicians from Aberdeen, South Lanarkshire and the local North Ayrshire regions, to create a truly international orchestra.

The week consisted of many hours of practice, culminating in an excellent concert on Friday night.

This was a truly worthwihile experience for Craig, who returned with new found enthusiasm for his violin.

     St Andrew’s Tide Concert

This event was hosted by Kilwinning Burns Club in the No 0 Social club, and we were invited, along with other acts to perform at this event.

The acts consisted of poetry, singing and music.

We had two slots on the programme, the first consisting of good old fashioned traditional music, and the second a mixture of traditional followed by modern, where we played ( and probably ruined) classics by artists such as The Beatles, The Doors and Van Morrison, plus a few of our own compositions.

It was a very enjoyable night with an excellent and appreciative audience.

The Ironworks Institute - Centenary Concert

This historic event was held in Nethermains Community Centre, Kilwinning, formerly the EGLINTON IRONWORKS INSTITUTE, and consisted of various traditional acts.

The Institute, was originally built to cater for the workers of the long gone Kilwinning Ironworks, which provided baths and leisure facilities for the men.

The concert, held on St Andrews night, was to celebrate 100 years, to the day of its existence.

Once again we had two slots, playing a mixture of both traditional Scottish and Irish music.

Christmas Concert - Robert W Service Court

We were invited to provide the entertainment at the RW Service Sheltered Housing complex Christmas lunch in Kilwinning.

The complex was named after the world famous poet who wrote many great tales of the Yukon, in the days of the goldrush.

RW Service spent many years of his childhood in Kilwinning, and is held in the same high esteem as that great Scottish poet Robert Burns.

We did a two hour set , consisting of our usual mix of traditional and modern music, with plenty of well known tunes for the audience to sing along to, and finished off with some Christmas carols, where Blair used his cornet to great effect.
